68 Years of FEB Unpad: From a Legacy of Excellence to a Sustainable Future

Bandung, October 2025 — The Faculty of Economics and Business, Padjadjaran University (FEB Unpad) marked the culmination of its 68th anniversary celebrations with a Scientific Oration, a crucial opportunity to reflect on its long journey since its founding in 1957 and to affirm its commitment to becoming a globally renowned faculty that contributes to sustainable development.

In its more than six decades of existence, FEB Unpad has developed into a leading faculty of economics and business, with nationally and internationally accredited study programs. The 68th anniversary commemoration also served as an opportunity to recognize lecturers, students, alumni, and partners who have played a role in building the faculty’s academic and social reputation.

The Dean of FEB Unpad emphasized that this commemoration was not merely a celebration, but also a reflection to strengthen its vision for the future. “FEB Unpad is committed to maintaining relevance in the dynamic world of education and continuously adapting to meet global standards,” he said.

In this scientific oration, FEB Unpad presented Prof. Budy P. Resosudarmo, a development and environmental economist from the Australian National University (ANU), spoke on the theme “Prospects for Navigating Climate Change in Indonesia.”

Prof. Budy, who also serves as Head of the ANU Indonesia Project, is a widely recognized academic for his research on the impact of economic and environmental policies on public welfare. He also actively collaborates with the FEB Unpad research team on various studies on sustainable development in Indonesia.

In his speech, Prof. Budy outlined Indonesia’s challenges and opportunities in addressing global climate change. He highlighted that the rate of global warming is now more than double what it was four decades ago, and that if this trend continues, the threshold of 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels could be reached before 2030.

According to him, Indonesia has great potential to become a regional leader in the clean energy transition through the development of floating solar power plants in equatorial regions, pumped hydropower plants, and a national energy supergrid that connects renewable resources across regions.

Prof. Budy also emphasized the importance of establishing a strong legal framework and a dedicated institution under national authority to ensure cross-sectoral coordination in climate policy. He added that cooperation between countries in East and Southeast Asia will be key to accelerating decarbonization and creating a fair and efficient regional carbon market.

“Adaptation to climate change must be at the core of sustainable development strategies, not just an add-on,” he said.

At the conclusion of his speech, he emphasized the concrete role of the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB) Unpad, which can be implemented through strengthening the center for green economy and environmental policy studies, and encouraging students to engage in research and social projects based on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Furthermore, FEB Unpad has become a pioneer in international research partnerships related to the green economy, energy transformation, and sustainable MSME empowerment, including collaboration with the ANU Indonesia Project led by Prof. Budy.

With a spirit of collaboration, innovation, and sustainability, FEB Unpad strives to continue to be a superior faculty, globally competitive, and positively impacting society and the nation, in line with the spirit of Prof. Budy’s speech. Budy, namely, protecting the earth, strengthening the economy, and building a sustainable future.
