FEB Unpad Welcomes Leiden University Delegates: Strengthening International Partnerships and Presenting a Sharing Session with Prof. Arnold Tukker

Bandung, June 5, 2025 – The Faculty of Economics and Business, Universitas Padjadjaran (FEB Unpad) welcomed two delegates from Leiden University, the Netherlands, namely Prof. Arnold Tukker, Professor of Industrial Ecology and Prof. Jasper Knoester, Dean of the Faculty of Science. This visit is a strategic momentum in strengthening global academic cooperation, especially between FEB Unpad and Leiden University.

The main activity of the visit which took place at the Unpad Executive Lounge Jl. Dipati Ukur No. 35 included the signing of a pre-agreement form for the development of a Joint PhD Program in the fields of Science, Environmental, Economic and Development Studies. The agreement was signed by Prof. Nunuy Nur Afiah (FEB Unpad) and Prof. Arnold Tukker (Institute of Environmental Sciences – CML Leiden), and approved by Prof. Rizky Abdulah (Vice Rector for Research, Cooperation, and Marketing Unpad) and Prof. Jasper Knoester.

“We are proud of this visit because Leiden University is a leading university and one of the oldest in Europe. This opportunity gives us the opportunity to improve cooperation in the fields of education, research and community service,” said Unpad Rector, Prof. Arief S. Kartasasmita, when receiving the visit.

aborated with Unpad. Today, FEB Unpad took an important step to expand the impact of this partnership through research and academic programs at the international level.

This series of visits was also complemented by a sharing session entitled “Some Thoughts on Research Management and International Collaboration” by Prof. Arnold Tukker and moderated by Dr. Adiatma YM Siregar, Vice Dean for Academic, Student Affairs, and Research FEB Unpad. This sharing session discussed the practice of international research collaboration, academic governance, and the importance of interdisciplinarity in responding to sustainable global challenges.

Prof. Arnold Tukker—who is also an Adjunct Professor at FEB Unpad and was inaugurated as Professor in Industrial Ecology in May 2024—expressed his enthusiasm for strengthening interdisciplinary academic exchange and collaborative research that has a direct impact on sustainable development in Indonesia.

This activity was organized by FEB Unpad together with the Center for Economics and Development Studies (CEDS), as part of the institution’s commitment to strengthening Unpad’s position as a world-class research university.
