Telkom Indonesia Deputy President Director, Kang Awaluddin: Navigating the Era of Digital Disruption with Strategy

Bandung, August 29, 2025 — The Faculty of Economics and Business, Padjadjaran University (FEB Unpad) presented an inspiring alumnus, Dr. Ir. Muhammad Awaluddin, MBA, at a public lecture held in the Master of Management Hall. He is an alumnus of the Doctoral Program in Management at FEB Unpad. He previously served as President Director of Angkasa Pura II, President Commissioner of PT. PELNI, and currently serves as Deputy President Director of PT Telkom Indonesia Tbk. He delivered a public lecture to postgraduate students in the Department of Management at FEB Unpad on the theme “From Strategy to Impact: The Role of Strategic Management in Driving Digital Indonesia.”

The Vice Dean for Learning, Student Affairs, and Research at FEB Unpad, Dr. Adiatma Yudistira Manogar Siregar, SE., ME.Con.St., expressed his appreciation for Awaluddin’s presence in his remarks, which also opened the public lecture. “The presence of alumni who are now strategic leaders at the national level, such as Kang Awaluddin, is invaluable to students and the academic community. This collaboration between academia and industry will strengthen Unpad in preparing the next generation of national leaders, especially in the digital era, which is full of challenges and opportunities,” he said.

In his public lecture, Kang Awaluddin began by highlighting Telkom’s strategic role as the state-owned enterprise holding company Danantara in building national digital infrastructure. Telkom’s vision is to act as a catalyst for industrial management through the concept of digital sovereignty, encompassing data sovereignty, technology, infrastructure, and ecosystems. This initiative is also aimed at strengthening national resilience in the digital era and reducing dependence on foreign technology.

Furthermore, he emphasized the importance of cross-holding digital synergy between state-owned enterprises, unifying digital infrastructure, developing sovereign clouds, data centers, and strengthening cybersecurity. He believes that Indonesia needs a comprehensive strategy to capitalize on digital disruption as a sustainable opportunity, in line with global trends such as IoT, the digital revolution, and the rise of over-the-top players like YouTube and TikTok.

He also emphasized the role of universities in providing real solutions. “Telkom can act as a management and strategic living lab, while Unpad acts as a research lab. This collaboration is expected to produce Indonesia’s future digital leaders,” he explained.

This public lecture strengthens the triple helix collaboration between government, industry, and academia. It is hoped that this synergy will enrich higher education curricula with practical experience, while also preparing graduates capable of becoming strategic leaders in the dynamic digital era.
